If you are like many business owners you may not have given a lot of thought to your brand and what it says about you. You may have been too busy opening your first store or finding an office or buying equipment to take a long time over exactly what image your brand conveys. But if you are ready to take your business to the next level, taking a long hard look at your branding may be a key step.
Whenever it is time to aggressively promote business, a key point is to determine your target market, or demographic. In other words, who are you selling to? Who do you want to call you or walk through your door? Whatever your brand is, it needs to appeal to that target market. It needs to be:
- Appealing to your target market
Take a look at your website, your business card, any brochures or flyers you have, and even your invoices. Do they look homemade or completely different from each other? Sometimes business go with a website template, an online business card and a default Quickbooks invoice without ever developing a logo or general look and feel. They just go with what was quick, easy, or cheap.
Unfortunately, that does not serve them well when it comes time to “level up.” The friendly neighbor who didn’t care what their business card looked like is not the same as the professional they met at a seminar. That business card should have identified the business and reinforced a favorable first impression. Then, the business card will serve to remind the contact why he or she wanted to do business with your firm. The same is true of your website and your flyer or brochure. All of the pieces to the puzzle should speak the same language and support the same concept.
If your business cards are leftovers from your first days in business, consider having your branding done professionally. A design package can put you on the right track and make your promotional pieces all sing the same song. Ready to get some beautiful business cards? Click here!
