Do you have lots of old brochures, flyers and business cards left over? You’ve been thinking of throwing them out but you spent money on them and now you just can’t put them in the waste-paper basket and let them go. It would be wrong, wouldn’t it?
Actually, it would be the right thing to do. Older brochures and flyers do you no good and they may actually be a problem if you take them to a tradeshow or meet and greet. When you hand them to a business colleague you may be giving them a bad impression of your business and costing yourself a potential customer. How do you know when it is time to throw older printed promotional materials away? We have some suggestions.
If your brochures, business cards, or flyers:
- Have cartoony clipart on them
- Have your old logo on them
- Do not match the color scheme on your other materials
- Have incorrect information of any kind
- Use unprofessional looking fonts and typefaces
- Were printed on your inkjet printer
- Are stained, curled, or discolored in anyway
Then it is time to take them to the recycling center. If you are not able to do it, delegate it to someone else but make it happen.
Your business’ website, flyers, brochures or business cards should have the same logo, font, color scheme and other branding elements. They should not have clipart or an amusing font on them unless you are a professional clown. The physical printed items should be kept in the box you received them in so that they are always crisp, clean, and representative of how professional your business is.
For many reasons your promotional printed items should not be printed on your home or office inkjet printer. The only two reasons you need to remember are cost and image. it costs more to keep putting ink in your printer then it would to have the items professionally printed. It also does not look as professional. When your business cards have perforated edges you are not making a good professional impression.
